Adapting Curriculum for your child's age and learning level

Adapting Curriculum for your child's age and learning level

Not All curriculums can be adapted for your child's level of learning and their age but Mother Goose Time can.

Mother Goose Time offers more than just the common and basic preschool program.  It is designed to use with different aged children on different learning levels.

Also, if you don't want to try to change the lessons to fit your child's needs,  Mother Goose Time has age appropriate curriculums already to use.

Music and movement video's to help learn and get the wiggles out

Little Goose is just right for your toddler

More math and reading for your advanced preschooler or kindergartener

And even a Bible curriculum

Their main preschool curriculum is what I use with my six year old daughter who attends Kindergarten at a public school.
We use Mother goose time as a reinforcement to what she is learning there.
Because she is in kindergarten and not preschool we purchase the more reading and more math add on books. These books are for kindergartener's or more advanced preschoolers.  My daughter loves to do the art projects, stories, songs, and other activities found in the preschool curriculum.  Because she is older, she doesn't need a lot of help with the projects anymore.

Let me show you just how easy it is to use Mother Goose Time Curriculum and get the most out of it...

Here is a picture of part of a normal lesson plan page..

See where it says HERE in red?  It tells you how you can simplify this activity for younger children.
It also has a challenge for the older children.
Some activities also have an assessment after it for you to know how to asses where your child is at.

Every daily lesson plan has wonderful tools such as these to help you and your child make learning fun.
Why? Because learning should be fun. It shouldn't be frustrating because it is too hard or boring because it is too easy.

Mother Goose Time has a free one day curriculum sample that you can download and try.

Portfolios and Learning Stories

Portfolios and Learning Stories

Because I teach two preschool classes, it can be a little tricky keeping up on creating a port folio and a learning story for parents.

To keep on top of things, I made each child a portfolio out of poster board that is stapled together. It is on the larger size but this is so I can fit this big projects in it.

Through out the year I decide on which fun art project to add to the portfolio's.
The ones I like to add are ones that the child had to cut, glue, color or paint.
I date each art project so the child and their parent's can see the progress that they have made over the year.

I also add a few writing sheets that the child has done over the year. Usually the child's name is fun to see how it has improved over the month's.

Since Mother Goose Time is wonderful at having a personal journal for each month to work in and then take home, The  parent's can see the progress by viewing the journal through out the school year.

I also, take pictures of class activities and field trips and then put a fun DVD together for graduation. Each child receives one to take home to remember their fun time at preschool and their friends.

The port folios's and DVD tells the child's story and what the have learned.

Health and Germs

Health and germs

This month we are learning about food and fitness in preschool.

Today we talked about those darn yucky germs that make us sick.

Germs are everywhere, there is no hiding from them.  They are on toys, tables, light switches, and doorknobs. Germs are even on things outside.

This doesn't mean that we should be afraid of them. No, some germs are actually good and help our body get stronger. However, we need to do what we can to not let these pesky germs get into our bodies.
How do we do this?  By washing our hands! Washing tables, toys and other objects that are frequently touched by other people.

When should we wash our hands?
After using the bathroom.
Before eating.
Before helping prepare food.
And when they look dirty.

When we wash our hands with SOAP and water, the germs wash down the drain.

When our hands are clean from germs we stay healthy.

We put germs letters on the table and let the kids spray germ away (water in a spray bottle) on them through out the day to see what would happen.

The wetter the letters got the worse the germs looked. Yup, we where making those germs look sick themselves and destroying them with each spray.

This was a fun experiment.  I had the kids tell me what letter they were spraying and the sound it made. Great way to combine science, health and phonics together.

The children then made cute door hangers to help them remember to wash their hands.

Music in preschool

Music in preschool, for me is a MUST

I love music. It can change your mood, help you learn and get you moving to the beat.Sounds and beats can also be used to communicate messages and tell stories.

Today, we talked about music  music in Africa.

During opening time we created a ABCD pattern by clapping our hands, stomping our feet, slapping our knees and patting our heads.

We sang the song "If your happy and you know it"....
and then moved around the room and danced to the song found on the monthly CD "African Rhythm" and to "African Rainfall".

We then made our own music shakers...

Did you know that in Africa, they make a lot of their musical instruments from junk that they find laying around.  They do! It is amazing to see what can be made from things that people throw away.
A few years ago, my family visited a music museum and part of it was instruments in  Africa. Here are a few pictures.....

To help us learn and review the letters of the month,
we passed around the letter cards...Z,S,E one at a time.
The person holding the card got to decided how to sing the sound-yup, sing it. and then add an action to it.

Music helps you remember!! What a fun day.
Thanks Mother Goose Time.

Giraffes on Safari

Giraffes on Safari

What do giraffes look like?

These giraffes live in Uganda, Africa. My son took this picture while he was there on a church mission. Yes, he was lucky and got to go on a real live safari.
If you look closely, each giraffe is different in color and spots, also, in height and size.

How many different shapes can you find on a giraffe's spots?

Did you know that giraffes have BLUE tongues?
Giraffes have long necks to reach the leaves in tall trees. Yes, they eat leaves.

Because giraffes also have long legs, they have to spread their legs apart like doing the splits to reach water.  They have to be very careful while getting a drink because they aren't very fast when their legs are spread apart.

Giraffe math game...
Here is a fun giraffe math game-

Choose a number card, place that many spots on the giraffe.

We did giraffe art...

Trace the child's foot for the head of the giraffe.

cut out other pieces free hand.

Add eyes, a mouth and color spots.

or glue some spots on.

Giraffe's are fun animals.
