St. Patrick's Day & Earth

It was so fun having St. Patrick's Day fall on a preschool day.
To celebrate we talked about St. Patricks Day-the wearing of green, leprechauns, rainbows & pot of gold.

The children went on a gold hunt to fill the leprechauns pot because it was empty. We counted how many they found.

We then got out our leprechaun money to see how many we could fit in each container. The children all took turns guessing and then we filled the containers to see if anyone was right.
This was a great counting activity and also volume, lets not forget small, medium and large. Fun math.

Today we also learned about the 3rd planet from the sun-earth. We pretended to be aliens from Jupiter  going on a trip to planet earth.
We made alien headbands. Of course they had to be green for St. Patrick's day.

We danced to blast off music and pretended to take off...heading to earth .

We discussed what kind of things we might find on earth, plants, animals, humans and the weather.
It was fun to learn about Earth as though we didn't know anything about it.

The letter of the week is the letter"Rr"
To help the children learn the letter we played a game called "Rabbit holes". To play the game I placed a picture of a rabbit on onesie of the room and the letter R at the other side, with rabbit holes in-between .
The children take turns rolling a dice to see how many times they get to jump like a rabbit.  When they land by a rabbit whole the say."R says rrrrrrrr" and then write the letter R on the hole(a brown piece of paper). I help those that need it.

It was great fun. We played it twice.

The 5 years olds painted rainbows and then added salt and a little bit of water to it to see the colors mix together. Some of the boys thought salt tasted yummy and ate more than went on their paper.

We had a little extra time and so they played the moon game-a new way.
